Key Verse – Luke 2:39-40  “When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.”

Scripture doesn’t tell us much about Jesus’ childhood. We don’t know if was your typical toddler, how potty training went, what his favorite meal was or what his favorite thing to do as a child was. After the visit from the wise men, the next time we read about Jesus, He is twelve and His family is once again traveling, this time to Jerusalem for Passover. Luke 2:52 says that Jesus grew in “wisdom, stature and favor with God and man”. 

It is so easy (for me at least) to forget that Jesus was indeed fully man, he had to grow up, learn to walk and feed himself, just like we do. He had to live through the awkward pre-teen years, figure out how to communicate with people, and learn how to be a carpenter’s son. He had brothers and sisters and an earthly mom and dad. Even Jesus had to learn! That means you and I also have to continue to learn and grow in our wisdom and in favor with God and man. 

Think and journal about:

• What about you, how are you growing these days?
• What is your spiritual growth plan for the upcoming year? Who do you have that is going to keep you accountable?
• If you don’t have a Bible reading/study plan, let me encourage you to spend some time thinking and praying about what that might look like.
