Key Verse – Luke 2:6 “While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,”
The big day had finally arrived. I can’t imagine this birth was anything like Mary and Joseph had anticipated. They were in a smelly barn for one, surrounded by smelly animals for another. They were away from home, more than likely away from friends and family. They were basically alone in a barn, with a newborn baby. Mary and Joseph brought Jesus into the world in a most unexpected way, and these unsuspecting teenagers played an integral part in the birth of our Savior. There was good in the journey along with the unexpected. Luke 2:19 captures all this in one simple statement “But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them.” Can you even imagine?!
Think and journal about:
- Imagine you are Mary or Joseph for a minute, what thoughts are you thinking? What are you feeling?
- When was the last time you anticipated something and didn’t turn out anywhere near how you had planned? How did you handle it?
- What good came from your last unexpected journey.
