Key verse: Luke 1:7 “But they had no children because Elizabeth could not conceive, and both of them were well along in years.”

Zechariah and Elizabeth were much like Abram and Sarai, a normal couple simply trying to obey God, when God enters and provides them with unexpected news and perhaps an unwanted journey. This time the news is that Elizabeth, who had been barren, is going to have a baby. And not just a baby, but a son! It’s fascinating which people God chooses to do big things with and through. Abraham and Sarah, Zecheriah and Elizabeth – Two couples well past their prime – but with God – NOTHING is impossible!  

Think and journal about:

• How do you think Zechariah and Elizabeth reacted to this news? (Hint: Read a few more verses)
• Put yourself in their shoes. List the thoughts, feelings, anxieties, worries you might have if this were you. 
• Keeping those thoughts and feelings in mind, think about this current holiday season. Where and how do you see or feel those same emotions?
