I HATE WINTER

I know, I know some of you will disagree with me. My husband and oldest daughter will be right there with you. But I seriously hate winter. And I’d like to share some of my reasons-

  • It’s cold.
  • You have to wear a coat. Coats are dumb. They are hard to move in, hard to drive in, and just all around cumbersome!
  • Snow is fine for the two weeks leading up to Christmas, after that it’s only a nuisance.
  • When it snows you have to shovel your driveway and constantly shuffle cars because if you park on the street you may get blocked in when (if) snow plows come by. Somehow the person who needs to leave is never in back!
  • Ice falling from the sky is pointless and can’t for the life of me figure out what purpose it serves.
  • There was time when a little bit of snow, did nothing more than slow us down a little. But at some point, we have become wimps, who are scared of driving when any kind of moisture falls from the sky. (I’m just saying, when I was growing up-we would have been in school today).
  • Snow days or I guess what we now call “virtual-learning” days are unfair. I mean come on, if your gonna call a snow day let the kids have a real snow day, where you go outside and freeze, but you don’t mind because there is no school! (And yes, I get that this way there are no needless days added to the end of the school year but is it really worth it?)
  • Hats, gloves, scarves and boots all just add to the piles of crap your family doesn’t pick up. The stack just gets bigger and messier. Not to mention the puddles of grossness all over the floor, left by all the winter weather gear.
  • Dogs and cold don’t mix well. I had to literally push our dog out the door today to take care of her business. Don’t even get me started on dog sweaters and booties!
  • Cars don’t like to start in the cold. Especially those your kids drive which are parked outside. The timing is never convenient and usually results in everyone being late and cranky.
  • Wet shoes, which lead to wet socks which are just gross!
  • And why, is it always on the coldest days when your furnace decides to act up?
  • It’s cold, yes, I know this is already on the list, but why are negative temperatures even a thing?!

Bottom line, winter is dumb and I don’t like it. It makes me cranky and more moody than normal.  I’m a summer girl through and through. And I’m not gonna apologize for it! I’ll have to verify this with my mom, but I’m pretty sure I’ve always hated winter and the cold. The only bright spot of these cold temperatures is that they make my hot flashes move on a bit quicker!

This really isn’t meant to be all that serious of a post, but I was sitting here trying to write a serious spiritual piece, but got distracted looking out the window at the white everything. That’s when I began texting a like-minded friend joking about writing this and decided why not? Maybe some of you out there will agree with me and this will bring a smile to your face on this cold winter day.

As much as I hate winter, I do understand there is a reason and purpose behind the cold and snow. God created all things, including weather, so there must be a reason for them, right? I’m not too proud to admit that the snow and white covered everything does create a beautiful scene outside my window. And after all, winter does give way to spring which is my absolute favorite, so maybe it’s not all bad. I just wish is wasn’t so long and cold!

Seems to me like this is a great time to go ahead and grab a cup of coffee, hot tea or hot chocolate, a snuggly warm blanket and settle in to your favorite chair with a good book. If you happen to fall into a nap, oh well what are snow days for anyway?
